KANUPRIYA + BIBHU MOHAPATRA = Perfection!
When we first heard about the collaboration between Indian designers KANUPRIYA & BIBHU MOHAPATRA, we knew that we could expect two things: stunning beauty & statement-making pieces. We were not disappointed. When Bibhu sent models down the runway in his drop-dead gorgeous Fall 2013 collection on Wednesday, February 13th, so perfectly in the center of NYFW – he called upon Kanupriya to add some jewels to the mix. The Ready-To-Wear designer created luxurious looks mixing his signature printed silks with embellished gowns and bright furs while bold Black & Gold KANUPRIYA cocktail rings made the models sparkle down to their fingertips.
The dazzling rings make up an exclusive group within Kanupriya’s upcoming Ebony Affair collection, which embodies the designer’s style by maintaining a purely organic, yet glamorous feel. Keeping with the brand’s hallmark designs, clean lines encase intricately cut faceted black onyx, polished smokey quartz and rough citrine stones, while a unique matte gold finish juxtaposes the opulence of the stones with a more modern feel, resulting in a bold yet feminine look. They will be available for Fall ‘13 at ShopKanupriya.com and we’ve already built them in to our personal F/W collection.
New York Fashion Week Trends Day 1: Oxblood
Today marks the second official day of New York’s Fall 2013 Season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and we were pretty excited to catch up on the collections that kicked off the shows. There are always trends that dominate the runways and we definitely keep a keen eye out to ensure we’re on top of it all but this little craze couldn’t be missed if we tried…especially since this is now it’s second season dominating the catwalk – oh, Oxblood, how we love you so. The deep red hue basically took over the magazine pages just a few months ago, we couldn’t get away from shades of wine, burgundy, maroon and the like – bags, shoes, jewels, furs, leathers – everywhere we turned. Well it appears this baby is still going strong and although the name makes us cringe (Lucky Magazine really nailed it with their “19 Euphemisms for Oxblood“), we have to admit, we’re pretty into you. Especially with BCBG’s laser-cut leather and Yigal’s head-to-toe cape. The unanimous vote on NYFW Trend Takeaway Part 1: Oxblood has our hearts beating harder for sure.
Kate, Lara & Natalia ALL Cover W Mag March Issue!
W magazine has come up with a great way to boost newsstand sales, this month: give three hot supermodels their own gorgeous cover, so that the indecisive fashion-obsessed end up buying the March 2013 issue three times. Smart move. Kate Moss, Lara Stone and Natalia Vodianova were each photographed by Mert & Marcus, posing in sultry jewel tones by Prada, Saint Laurent and Burberry Prorsum. Take a look all three W covers and see if you can pick a favorite…

Obsessed with FIT Shoe Obsession!
Shoe Obsession examines our culture’s ever-growing fascination with extravagant and fashionable shoes. In fact, designer shoes have overtaken “It” bags as the most coveted fashion accessories. In response, shoe departments in major department stores have undergone significant expansions, and the “great designer shoe wars” have escalated. Shoes by established designers such as Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin continue to be bestsellers, while the number of rising stars within the footwear industry is multiplying. Over the past decade, heels have reached new heights —as have prices. High-heeled shoes—the fashion shoes of the 21st century—have become so tall that even a 4-inch heel is considered “low.”

Shoe Obsession will feature approximately 150 examples of contemporary footwear, highlighting the extreme, lavish, and imaginative styles that have made shoes central to fashion. The exhibition will include work by prominent footwear labels such as Manolo Blahnik, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Louboutin, and Roger Vivier, as well as shoes from influential design houses, including Azzedine Alaïa, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, and Prada. Avant-garde designers such as Kei Kagami and Noritaka Tatehana—who have made some of the most extreme shoes of the 21st century—will further underscore the exceptional creativity of contemporary shoe design. Shoe Obsession will also include highlights from the incredible shoe collections of several stylish women, including jewelry designer Lynn Ban and fashion icon Daphne Guinness. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Valerie Steele, director and chief curator, and Colleen Hill, associate curator of accessories. – Fashion Institute of Technology

Oh, Karl…
Fashionista thought it would be fun to take a look at the year through Karl Lagerfeld’s words & boy did we feel the need to share:
Zara or Marant?
Loving the western gone baroque thing going on this season? Don’t go broke to get on that train.
We know Isabel Marant may have put the sleek, heeled cowboy bootie on the map…but we have to say, Zara has to get the credit for taking it to the next level this season. Heavily inspired by Marant? Most possibly. Multiple variations and colorways available for a tiny-itty-bitty fraction of the price? Done and done. Compared to the $1,326 Blackson embroidered boots that Isabel has so successfully tempted us with for Fall, Zara made our mouth’s water with a bevy of stylishly comparable options ranging from just $129-$189, I mean, we could buy them all! Or settle on just one and wait to see what’s up next season…either way, we really can’t go wrong. We <3 you IM but thanks Zara!
Margaret Elizabeth Offers a Double Dose of Vintage Glam!
Our latest obsession has definitely focused on chunky statement necklaces, so when we were introduced to Margaret Elizabeth’s one-of-a-kind collection it was love at first sight. Designer Meg Galligan strings gorgeous semi-precious stones, pearls, and unique beads in heavy strands that sit perfectly on the collarbone and adorns each with vintage brooches that will be found only on the neck of the wearer – talk about making a statement. Though each piece’s unique qualities make it nearly impossible to talk up one over another, we have to say we’re partial to the pieces with double the fun…something about the symmetry, or maybe just the extra dose of glam, either way we know how we’re dressing up our T-shirt tomorrow! Check out the full range at margaretelizabeth.com
Cara does Coco Chameleon!
